YTL Foundation held the inaugural YTL Foundation Awards at JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur in collaboration with FrogAsia to celebrate and honour exemplary teachers from all over the country who have effectively implemented 21st Century learning in their classrooms.
The guest of honour was YAM Tunku Besar Seri Menanti Tunku Ali Redhauddin Tuanku Muhriz, the Crown Prince of Negeri Sembilan who is also Chairman and Founding Trustee of Teach for Malaysia.
The 1BestariNet Teacher Awards and the YTL Foundation Schools Awards were presented to the winners at the event. These awards celebrate the achievements of teachers and schools that performed exceptionally well in 2018.
1BestariNet Teacher Awards
The three teachers who received the 1BestariNet Teacher Awards were Puan Norsiah Abd. Rahman, headmistress of SMK Air Molek, Mr. Yu Kok Hui, ICT and Frog Admin of SMK Skudai and En. Nasrul Safwan bin Zaukafli, a science teacher from SK Sungai Pinang.
YTL Foundation Schools
The five schools who received the YTL Foundation Schools Awards were SK Ampangan, SK Seri Bayu, SMK Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi, SMK Tengku Mahmud and SMK (P) Pudu.
Frog World Championships 2018
The winners of the Frog World Championships 2018 were also presented with their prizes at the event. This contest is an international competition designed to get students and schools motivated to engage in independent learning.

There was also a special presentation of the Tan Sri Yeoh Tiong Lay Transformational Teaching Award launched by Teach For Malaysia this year in honour of the late Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr) Yeoh Tiong Lay in recognition of his unceasing commitment to education.
The night ended with the announcement of the Best Dressed for the evening by Adibah Noor, the guest artiste at the event.
The 2018 Leaps of Knowledge conference themed ‘Power Up’ is a sequel to last year’s conference themed ‘Level Up.’ More than 1,000 educators and parents in total from all over Malaysia attended the conference. The aim of the conference was to recognise educators as superheroes (Gamechangers) and empowering them to continue raising the bar in education and encouraging 21st Century teaching and learning.
The first keynote speaker was Kiran Bir Sethi, founder of Design for Change (DFC), the largest movement of change by children and Riverside School, Ahmedabad, India. DFC is now in over 60 countries, impacting 2.2 million children and 65,000 teachers. Kiran spoke about empowering children by character building and design thinking.
The second keynote speaker was Cheryl Ann Fernando, the inspirational teacher portrayed in the Malaysian film ‘Adiwiraku’. Cheryl shared her experience as a teacher in a rural school and how teachers can empower their students to reach their highest potential.

The third holiday programme for the children of YTL employees was organised on 20 August 2018. It was well attended by over 40 children aged 5-12 years for another day of fun free educational activities including craft, science, speech and drama, ukulele and games. The event for the day kick started with icebreakers and games run by our own YTL scholars. The children had so much fun getting to know one another and making new friends. Craft time was fun time as they get to decorate on their mini glass bottle with sea sponging technique. The children get to learn how to make ice-cream during the science experiment “chemistry kitchen” and was the happiest when learning how to play the ukulele.
They were also entertained with singing and music performance with 30 children from 4 community-based schools.
